Another Oldhammer Day in the books! A big thanks to Nigel for arranging several days of oldhammer fun in New Jersey. What better place to play a post apocalyptic game like Rogue Trader than a post apocalyptic wasteland like New Jersey? Unfortunately, I didn't get to head up until Saturday morning and arriving around lunch time.
|
Oldhammer Music to get me in the mood. |
When I arrived, most of Saturday's gaming hadn't really picked up yet. But there were some very nice tables set up. Rusty did excellent work on the terrain!

Chris' amazing Ogre and Goblin army arrayed for battle |

Orks await someone to fight |
|
Talk about a city of the damned... |
Gaming did get going, as Dustin, Austin, and Chris got a game of Bommerz over da Sulphur River. I'm pretty sure Dave was running a game of Pulp Alley at the same time as well.
|
I didn't catch who made this, but this has to be one of the most Rogue Trader things I have ever seen! |

Who doesn't love Space Hulk? |

I did finally get a game in. My Crimson Fists and Dave's Squats went up against Dustin and Chris' Orks. Blue acted as GM. The Imperials were guarding a Dreadnaught factory. At the start of every second turn, a dreadnaught would appear.

The noble Crimson Fists guard the flank... |

from the vile xenos Orks. |
|
Squats are not quite as daring as the Crimson Fists, preferring to take strategic advantage of cover! |
|
The Orks attempt to sneak around the flank. |
|
The Orks were pretty successful in their flanking maneuver. |
|
Although they wiped out the rest of the squad easily, the Brother Captain Sanchez was harder to kill. |
|
At this point, the Orks were too cowardly to engage Captain Sanchez in a fight, preferring to let their flamer to the work. |
It was really at this point that my Crimson Fists were eliminated from the game and I began to wander around the event, seeing what everyone else was doing. Although Dave did manage to secure an imperial victory without me!
|
Don was setting up for a game of Epic. |
|
More Space Hulk! |

I was intending to run a Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay game on Saturday evening. However, my allergies got the better of me and I had to turn in about 9 pm. And to add insult to injury, my wife and one of my kids became ill that evening and I had to rush home first thing Sunday morning. So I didn't get in as much gaming as I would have liked, but I still had a hell of a lot of fun and Blue and I are already discussing a game for next year!
Those tables are really great! The matt on the first pic is pic is perfect.
ReplyDeleteSeems like a nice and fun day indeed, and the ork army is pretty cool too :)
Those were some of the nicest tables I've ever played on!
DeleteThanks Diego. It’s one of the old F.AT. Mats. I did all the terrain to match it.
DeleteChris, I apologise for getting the credits wrong!
DeleteRusty and Dave did the mordheim terrain which is much better than mine.
DeleteNice report, Andrew! Thanks for posting pictures from our big "dreadnaught factory" RT game (I only took a few for some reason). Definitely looking forward to next year's event, as well.
ReplyDeleteWell, you actually had models that survived more than a few turns. I had more free time! 😂
DeleteDiscussing a game for next year? If this isn't Oldhammer, I don't know what is. Whether the game happens or not is quite irrelevant!
ReplyDeleteOf course it is. Lopez and I have been planning a game for at least three years and I don't think either of us have started painting yet!
DeleteBut we'll need you to come, we'll need some of your goblins!
What a great day!
ReplyDeleteIt was, you should attend next year. Poland is pretty close to New Jersey, right?
DeleteYeeees! few hours by car ;)
DeleteNot Space Hulk. Space Crusade. (Nit-picky, I know)
ReplyDeleteFantastic looking day of gaming though with some really nice looking tables and minis - thanks for sharing mate!
Neeeeeeerrrrrrrrddddddd!!!!!!!!
DeleteWhat's funny though is it clearly says Space Crusade on the side of the box in the pictures. :p
DeleteI'd never have won without the valiant sacrifice of the Crimson Fists guarding our right flank. And the titan, an ED class scout titan, is usually found over on the Tartarus Rim. (Which is to say he's mine.) Anyway . . . man that was fun! Yes. Lots and lots of great gaming on hands-down fantastic tables. (And Ed is grateful for your kindness.)
ReplyDeleteThey'd have died much faster with T3/Sv4+ 😝 Then you might not have won!
DeleteAnd that's an awesome Titan!
That is quite true. But there's nothing more Oldhammer than losing honorably in the name of a fun scenario, so it all would have been okay.
DeleteAnd thank you. :) Ed and I go way back. I stole the idea from a friend Ben Kottkamp, who was himself doubtless inspired by the scout titans in White Dwarf. One of which, apparently, still occupies a rather senior desk in an office in Nottingham. Probably built mine within a year or so of seeing that, so he's got the old part down, anyway. ;-) . . . (Also, would you believe my friend and I fought a Floorhammer Rogue Trader battle with not one, not two, but three of those, armored columns, and a couple solid companies of marines? Went faster than you'd think just because the titans chewed through everything else so very quickly.)
Anyway, it was a distinct pleasure, sir. Hope to do it again sometime soonish.
Sorry to hear that the Crimson Fists got a bloody nose. Well, anyway, fantastic pictures --- some of those tables look absolutely amazing.
ReplyDeleteIf you've ever seen me roll dice, it's to be expected 😂
DeleteI read somewhere that Oldhammer isn't actually about playing. ;) Glad you got in a game, sorry you had to cut it short. There were some really nice looking tables there.
ReplyDeleteI think that's it in the Oldhammer contract!
