Heroquest Chaos Warriors

Gunter snuck around the corner, into a large room. What he thought would be the dungeon's treasure chamber turned out to be its torture chamber--and it gave Gunter an uneasy feeling. Still he crept around the edge, looking for any loot he could find. He saw a glint in a pile of rubble, and began rifling through it. Suddenly, he heard a noise behind him. He turned around and and standing there was a monstrous suit of armor. In a flash, its axe was raised...

The last of the rank and file bad guys! I purposely held these for the end, as they're my favorite. In fact, the metal prototype chaos warrior is one of my holy grail models and I even prefer this sculpt to the classic Slambo. I was tempted to paint all of them in the classic black armor, but I decided I'd rather have one in the armor of each of the chaos gods.

For the Khorne warrior, I based him in GW Doombull brown, which was then highlighted by mixing in Vallejo Game Air Blood Red up to pure Blood Red. After that, I applied GW Blazing ORange, then a mix of Blazing orange and Vomit Brown. After that, he got a glaze made of the old GW Baal Red, and then the final highlight was reapplied.

The Nurgle warrior was much simpler, as painting Nurgle usually is. He was pretty much just GW Elysian Green, washed with Agrax Earthshade, and followed by mixing in Kreig Khaki for the highlights.

The Tzeetch warrior's armor was based in GW Kantor Blue, washed with GW Drakenhoff Nightshade, and highlighted by adding in white, while the yellow parts were GW Flashgitz Yellow, washed with Cassadora Yellow and highlighted by adding white to the the base.

The most fun part was the etheric blood on his axe. The was a mix of Guilliman Blue, Drakenhoff Nightshade, and Black Ink at various amounts and applied in a streaking pattern.

The Slaanesh warrior was the most fun and I wanted to give him garish armor. The pink portions were painted with GW Emperor's Children washed with Carroburg Crimson and highlighted by adding white the Emperor's Children while the Green was GW GW Sybarite Green and highlighted with white. The purple was GW Naggoroth Night and highlighted with white. Particularly with the Slaanesh and Tzeentch warriors, I used white for all the highlights to give them a more pastel tone, as pastel shades are often associated with these two gods. For the Slaanesh warrior, I also added leopard print and zebra print shoulder pads. And I finally painted the glove with Scale 75 Citrine Alchemy and White Alchemy to simulate a sequined gauntlet. It just seemed appropriate!

So, now just the Gargoyle, Warlock, and the heroes left!

  2. That's magnificent. I never dared to do this (I painted mine in dull, regular black)and you show that it can really work. Bravo!
